The league also announced a rebranding, with the introduction of a new logo. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season, the organization Liga MX / Ascenso MX was created to replace the Mexican Football Federation as the organizing body of the competition. The change in the rules affected teams that traditionally dominated the table, as talented teams that had not performed well in the regular season were able to perform successfully in the play-offs (Cruz Azul in the 1970s, América in the 1980s, and Toluca in the 2000s). The format was changed from season to season to accommodate international club commitments and the schedule of the Mexico national team. At other times the league was divided into groups with the top two in each group, often as well as the best 3rd placed teams, qualifying for the play-offs and in some seasons the play-offs themselves involved teams playing in groups with the group winners playing off for the title. The most common format was a straight knock-out between the top eight teams in the table. The play-off, called the Liguilla, was played using various formats to determine the champion. CI’s texture was noticeably softer and moister than Sally’s.įlour: Flour content ranged from 40% (Baker by Nature, CI) to 48% (Borderlands) and 46% (Smitten Kitchen). While egg helps add structure, molasses adds sweetness and moisture, leading to a more delicate but potentially more moist cookie. Note that higher fat will generally lead to more spread in the baked cookies. Tartine (19%) and CI (17%) show a slight preference for higher fat cookies (likely because butter provides such great flavor and a tender texture). Butter content ranged anywhere from 13% (SK and Sally’s) to 21% (Baker by Nature). (Though I do think Tartine and CI are towards the slightly spicier end.) It's a testament both to the character and to Alan Rickman's masterful portrayal of him that so many of Snape's quotes are still memorable to this day.Oscar-nominated actor Ryan O’Neal, star of several landmark films including “Love Story” and “Paper Moon,” has died, according to his son, Patrick, who posted the news to social media. It's worth rewatching the "Harry Potter" films if for no other reason than to see Snape play the angles. In a few simple words, the professor was able to maintain the appearance of detesting Harry, support Umbridge's merciless interrogations of the students, give Harry a subtle cue that he understood his coded message of distress, and feign ignorance of the code's existence. He's got Padfoot at the place where it's hidden." Umbridge then questions Snape: "Padfoot? What is Padfoot? Where is what hidden? What is he talking about, Snape?" Snape replies coolly, "No idea." Unless you wish to poison Potter - and I assure you, I would have the greatest sympathy if you did - I cannot help you." Harry then desperately bursts out in code: "He's got Padfoot. Snape answers with, "I'm afraid you have used up all my stores interrogating students, the last of it on Miss Chang. 12/29/2023 0 Comments Ascension board game comic![]() Not miniatures.Īscension Tactics, then, starts with a lie: it’s not really a miniatures game. The retail/non-Kickstarter version of the game doesn’t have miniatures at all. The demo I walked through with Gary at GAMA Expo showed pictures of miniatures, but he did mention that he was showing me pictures of the deluxe version. The large Ascension Tactics box arrived and I couldn’t rip off the shrink fast enough. But first, we need to address those miniatures…or shall I say, “miniatures.” ![]() What I don’t know is why the seven credited designers thought there was a market for people who love deckbuilders but want to attack each other with miniatures, as opposed to attacking cards in the market row.īecause there is no such thing as bad Ascension, I’ll talk through who I think this game is really for. Therefore, Ascension Tactics is roughly 50% classic Ascension and 50% skirmish game, with “Champion” minis represented on the board and under the command of each player. In speaking to Gary, Ascension Tactics is a way to keep Ascension’s core gameplay loop intact-start with a terrible hand, slowly make it better by buying cards from a central card market, work to cut the fat by getting rid of those terrible starting cards-then adding on a miniatures combat game that plays out on a regular ol’ game board with hexes, terrain, and line-of-sight rules. If you’ve never played a deckbuilding game, dozens of games have taken the format to great heights, from dungeon exploration games like Clank! to Euro game experiences featuring deckbuilding as a part of a game’s mechanics, such as Lost Ruins of Arnak.ĭeckbuilders are everywhere. Whether this becomes elevated fare is based on a simple question:ĭid Ascension need a “troops on a map” variant?Įlijah Longwell wrote a review for Meeple Mountain on Ascension: Gift of the Elements, the 2017 release and one of the 70+ expansion games and promo packs released since Ascension hit the tabletop scene in 2010, soon after the king of the deckbuilding category, Dominion, was born.īoth Dominion and Ascension provide excellent deckbuilding experiences that are still being copied today. If you remember that there’s no such thing as bad bacon, and you are a fan of Ascension, you’ll be in at least decent shape with Ascension Tactics. I met Justin Gary at GAMA Expo back in March, and while that was a career milestone for me (who doesn’t love meeting their game design heroes?), I was mostly excited to get a review copy of Ascension Tactics: Miniatures Deckbuilding Game to the table. I love the base game and I’ve played 6-7 of the expansions now, mostly the early stuff like Storm of Souls and some of the first promo packs. I’m sure I have played over 500 rounds of the game that way, along with a handful of in-person plays. Nowadays, I mostly play Ascension on my iPad as a filler activity between other tasks. All pork bacon is at least decent bacon, so I’m never gonna pass that up.Īscension: Deckbuilding Game was my introduction to deckbuilders a decade ago. Like, bacon that I took one bite of, then did a “spit take” and threw that slice away. I can’t really say I’ve ever had bad bacon. (By “bacon”, I mean the pork stuff turkey bacon is, well, not for me.) ![]() It’s great! Here at the Bell household, we do a big breakfast every Sunday and bacon is usually on the table. Having to pull out the rulebook each time to check what to do can slow down game time.Bacon. Ascension is played similarly to Tyrants of the Underdark which does include a guide for each player. The addition of a simple handout for players to keep track of rules would be useful. There is one major thing we wish were included with the set. And the board gives a clear presentation of where cards go and how to set up the game. The rules are presented in an easy-to-understand and straightforward way. It’s a strategic game but isn’t complicated in any way. It’s all about knowing what cards you have in your deck and what is out on the field. ![]() The one with the most Honor is the winner. Players then add up all their tokens and Honor points listed on their cards. The game ends when the last token is collected. Whereas Monster cards can only be defeated by Power and grant you certain abilities upon beating them. Both cost Runes and help to defeat monsters, draw cards, or grant other boons to gain Honor tokens. The original deck grows and expands over time as players gain new Heroes and Constructs. Players draw five cards and use them to gain new Heroes and Constructs or fight Monsters. |
